2021 Holiday #RunChatHunt is here with new twists

#RunChatHunt - our twice-a-year Scavenger Hunt - is back with some changes. We have MORE items that you can search for on your runs as well as prizes that will be drawn every week in December into early January.

Let’s first start with the basics.

HOW #RUNCHATHUNT WORKS

We have our list of items to find farther down in this post. Your mission: Find those items on your run and tweet photos of those items. With each photo (only one photo per item per entry), you’re entered to win prizes. We’ll break this down with some additional FAQs we’ve had over the years.

Can I tweet more than one photo with multiple items?

Technically yes, but you’re limiting yourself to the number of entries. One photo = one item = one entry. We have 20 items on our list. 20 photos = 20 entries. If you combine your entries, you get fewer entries. A collage of 5 photos for 5 items = 1 entry. Why? Because it’s one tweet.

Can I enter an item more than twice?

No. If you tweet a snowman, don’t try to find another snowman or a better snowman and have that count as your entry. It’s really confusing to do that.

Can I use old photos?

Not this year. Please create new memories with new photos.

“Does this count?”

While that’s pretty generic, we get that pretty often. If you have to ask if it counts, you’re going to get a “yes” reply. If it’s close to the item or you’ve used some kind of creativity to get that item, then yes, you’re good to go.

Can I post to Instagram?

Yes, but only entries on Twitter are counted toward the prizes. Make sure the #RunChatHunt tag with your photo or a link to the photo make it to Twitter.

Can I win more than one prize?
Yes, but with prizes each week (more info below), you can’t win more than one prize per week.

NEW THIS YEAR

While this year will have weekly drawings for prizes, #RunChatHunt does not start over from scratch each week for your items to enter. Your entries are “rolling.” If, for example, you find all 20 items on the first day of #RunChatHunt, you have 20 entries for the entire period. #RunChatHunt is open through 11:59 p.m. ET Saturday, Jan. 1

Prizes (also farther down in this post) will be drawn on Sunday evenings after each week’s #RunChat. There are at least 3 prizes each week. If you’re “saving” your entries for a particular week, it will not necessarily increase your chances of winning that week.

THE ITEMS TO FIND

Instead of one long list of items to find, we have four different categories, each with five different items to find.

First, #RunChatHunt Classics. These are items that have been on the list multiple times over the years — they’re simple, but produce some amazing scenes. They fit perfectly in both the summer and winter versions of the hunt. The top four items to find in this category are:

  1. Body of Water (pond, river, stream, etc)

  2. Sunrise or sunset

  3. Mural

  4. Trail sign (we’ve referred to this one in the past as “proof you ran on a trail”)

  5. Clouds

The second category is Holiday Items. We had a three-way tie for first!

  1. Candy canes

  2. 3 or more inflatables in one photo

  3. Snowman (this can be real or fake or some kind of creation in your mind)

  4. Selfie with Santa

  5. Hanukkah decorations

The final category was labeled All Mixed Up when voting opened. These items were a mix of things that were newly nominated or previously nominated but failed to make the final cut. A couple of items had been part of #RunChatHunt before, but weren’t really “classics.”

  1. Local school

  2. Proof you’re staying safe on a run

  3. Speed limit sign

  4. Temperature sign

  5. Discarded mask

Now for a bit of a surprise: The Honorable Mentions. The first three items were 6th in each category. The final two items consistent of one that’s been a part of #RunChatHunt in the past and an “open” entry for you to decide.

  1. Bridge

  2. Manger scene

  3. Railroad crossing or station

  4. Letters to spell #RunChat (please create a single photo collage to post)

  5. Your choice! (Anything not listed above)

THE RULES

(There is some repetition here from our FAQs section above.)

Rule No. 1 … HAVE FUN! This is meant to be a stress-free, take-your-mind-off-current-events type of event.

Creativity counts. If you're having trouble finding an item, please know that each individual thing doesn't have to be so literal. We've had some amazing creative entries over the years. Keep it fun, relaxed and entertaining to you and your Twitter followers.

Each item to find counts as ONE entry. So if you post a collage of items, sorry, it's only one entry. Post each item separately so you can have up to 10 entries for the prizes. Threading your tweets is perfectly fine!

Your tweets MUST contain the hashtag #RunChatHunt even if you’re replying to @therunchat tweets with photos.

#RunChatHunt is open through 11:59 p.m. ET Jan. 1, 2022. Retweets and liking of tweets do not increase your chances of winning.

Please note: We may use your photos that have the #RunChatHunt tag on other social media posts or future scavenger hunt events. We'll give you photo credit as much as we can.
